Strategic Communications 101
Wednesday, February 10, 2016
(This workshop sets the foundation that allows you to get the most out of the other workshops in the series.)
When is the best time to be thinking about communications? Always, and here’s why….
The term “strategic communications” relates to the process by which companies and organizations infuse their communications efforts with an overarching agenda and a goal-focused master plan which involves promoting the brand of an organization, urging people to do specific actions, or advocating particular legislation. In this workshop, you’ll learn the HOWs and WHYs of strategic communications, be able to understand (and convey) the value that these types of efforts can deliver to your organization, and begin to build your own StratComm tool-kit to manage current and future communications challenges within your organization, be it donor engagement efforts or building PR support for a new research report or campaign.
Designing a Better Brand 201
Wednesday, February 17, 2016
A strong, recognizable and respectable brand opens supportersdoors and wallets….
A great brand is instantly recognizable and respected, conveys what is special about your organization, and helps to open doors and facilitate growth by virtue of its power to transform issues and lives.
A brand’s strength is derived from the goodwill and name recognition that it has earned over time, and the emotional connection it creates with those who come into contact with it. This translates into greater volunteer, staff and supporter alignment with the organization’s mandate, increased fundraising opportunities and enhanced market niche position vis-a-vis your competitors.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to go about building your brand. From developing the basics of your corporate identity to extending it into fundraising and communication activities, we will share insights into the experiences and lessons-learned from other non-profits who have built successful brands.
Engineering Effective Events 301
Wednesday, February 24, 2016
The world of events is one of the most competitive fields there is….
Event marketing strategies leave a lasting, brand-focused impression by grabbing the attention of a group of people who are gathered together, creating a sense of belonging and community and forwarding your organization’s mandate. If executed professionally and successfully, event marketing will provide attendees (partners, donors and supporters) with an experience that will resonate in their minds for months, if not years, to come.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to turn your event into the must-attend occasion on your community’s social calendar while adding significant value to your brand, operations and bottom line. Using examples such as the Earth Day Canada Gala and the NHL All-Star Game, we’ll run you through developing the initial concept, thematic devices, venue, MC and speakers, entertainment, food, venue decoration, audio/video, set-up and teardown and attendee (and sponsor) follow-up.
