Ramani Nadarajah will discuss the role of private prosecutions in enforcing environmental law. She will outline the factors that should be considered in undertaking a private prosecution, the nuts and bolts of conducting a private prosecution and highlight some of the significant private prosecutions of environmental offences in Ontario.
Ramani joined the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) as legal counsel in 1994. She has represented clients before various provincial and federal administrative tribunals and before all levels of court in Ontario. Prior to joining CELA, Ramani was counsel with the Ministry of the Environment where she handled trials and appeals of environmental offences on behalf of the Crown in courts throughout Ontario.
